The cellphone coverage in the Waitakeres is random because it is a hilly area and the deeper you go the less lkelihood of any network connection. On one of the days when we were trekking in - out of nowhere we hear someone's cellphone going off and all of us are a bit stunned since we were 30 minutes into our walk. All of us immediately took out our cellphones to check if we were getting any coverage and the answer was negative.
